A public service provider wants to offer to tenants, through a public catalog, a Linux distribution preinstalled in a virtual machine.

This will allow users in any organization to deploy a Linux image in minutes instead of having to create a vApp from scratch and installing the operating system themselves. This is usually a long process with no value-add for the tenants. By providing a basic pre-built operating system the provider’s customers can move quickly to adding applications.

Alternatively, the service provider could offer pre-built middleware and application stacks on top of the basic operating system. However, this is beyond the scope of this example.
