A customer reported that their vCloud environment was running unacceptably slow. vApp copies were taking 5 minutes yesterday, but took 45 minutes today. Investigation revealed that the clones on the second day were being sent across the sites. So, although the customer can show latency numbers within the supported less than 20ms RTT, the bandwidth availability during peak hours was not enough to perform within the expected time frame. Copy operations of thick-provisioned virtual machines should be performed during off hours, as they are typically considered “high I/O” tasks. If this task is also a “high bandwidth” task it must also be factored into the considerations.
